A teacher who was dealing in herbal cannabis has been remanded for a probation report. The court heard that Gardai found €500 worth of the drug in a Land Rover that had been loaned to Catherine Smith.

Smith, 32, with an address at Limekiln Road, Walkinstown, pleaded guilty to simple possession of cannabis herb and possession of cannabis herb for sale or supply on 13th October 2010.

Smith has five previous convictions, including a 12 month driving ban for drink-driving issued on 15th July 2010. Smith’s counsel said his client was going through a “chaotic stage in her life” at the time of the offence. He added that she was on heavy medication at the time of the incident, which impaired her recollection of it.

Judge William Hamill adjourned the case to a date in September for a probation report.
