Youth to face hatchet attack trial

A Young man accused of assaulting his girlfriend and her friend across Tallaght while they were trying to escape in a taxi has been sent forward for trial to the Circuit Criminal Court.
 Michael Murphy, aged 21, with an address at Kilcarrige Close in  Tallaght, is charged with producing a hatchet while dangerous driving at the Tallaght Bypass on December 21, 2008.
 He is also charged with threatening to kill or seriously harm Paul Delaney at the above date.
 The court heard it will be alleged that at 3:30am on the date in gquestion, Murphy was in a car with his girlfriend and her friend at the Outer Ring Road in Clondalkin when an argument took place and the ladies left the car.
 It was also be alleged that Murphy tried to put Christina Meehan back into the car and it will future be alleged that he assaulted her and her friend, Danielle Delaney.
 Garda Rooney said it will be alleged that Murphy then sped off and the ladies attempted to hail a taxi.
 When a taxi arrived, Murphy returned and allegedly attempted to block in the taxi.
 The taxi drove off and Murphy allegedly followed it, got it to stop and he produced a small hatchet swinging it at the taxi and shouting that he would kill the passenger.
 The taxi then drove off and Murphy allegedly chased it and made a number of attempts to stop it before finally arrived at Tallaght Garda Station where they reported the incident.
 Judge McHugh sent Murphy forward on bail of €300 to the Circuit Court for trial.
