Garda Patrol Car Headbutted
Saturday, 3rd October 2009

John McDonagh, aged 28, with an address at Drumcairn Parade, Tallaght, pleaded guilty to damaging a Garda patrol car, no insurance and no driving licence.

Tallaght Court was told by Sergeant Carmel Henry that at 1.10a.m.on the 1st February 2009, the accused was observed driving on the Killinniny Road and appeared to be agitated when he caught sight of the Gardai. When stopped he got out of his car and headbutted the bonnet of the patrol car. No damage was caused to the vehicle but McDonagh was arrested and charged for having no insurance and no driving licence.

McDonagh had no previous convictions and was apologetic to the Gardai. He had believed that because he was covered by insurance in England, he could drive in Ireland.

Judge Early took the criminal damage into consideration and fined McDonagh €150 with a two year ban for having no insurance. He was also fined €120 for having no driving licence.
